Before you bid
- Register with your name, email address, mobile number and a password, then click the link in the verification email we send you.
- Add your residential address under Account › Verification. South African law (FICA) requires it before you can place a bid. You can browse and watch lots without it.
- OGGA staff accounts cannot bid.
Placing a bid
- Each lot shows a starting bid and a bid increment. The minimum next bid is the current bid plus the increment, or the starting bid if nobody has bid yet.
- Tap one of the suggested amounts or type your own. Any amount at or above the minimum is accepted, cents included.
- Every bid is binding the moment it is accepted and cannot be withdrawn. If you win, you have agreed to buy the lot at that price.
- If someone outbids you, we email you straight away. You can turn these emails off under Account › Settings.
- Use the eye icon to watch a lot. We remind you before watched lots close, and the lot page lets you jump between your watched lots.
How lots close
- All lots in an auction share one closing time, shown on every lot.
- A bid placed in the final 2 minutes moves that lot's closing time to 2 minutes after the bid. This repeats as often as needed, so nobody can win by bidding in the last second. Other lots are not affected.
- When the countdown reaches zero, the highest bid wins, provided it meets any reserve.
- All times are South African time. Countdowns follow our server clock rather than your device, so every bidder sees the same closing time.
Reserve prices
Some lots have a confidential reserve, the lowest price we will sell at. Until bidding reaches it the lot shows Reserve not met. If bidding ends below the reserve the lot does not sell automatically, although we may still accept the highest bid; if we do, that bidder wins the lot at their bid.
Buy now
Some lots also have a Buy now price. Choosing Buy now ends bidding on that lot immediately and the lot is yours at that price. Buy now is withdrawn once bidding passes it.
Anonymous bidding
Other bidders never see your name. On each lot bidders are numbered in the order they first bid, as Bidder 1, Bidder 2 and so on, and your own bids show as You.
After you win
- When the auction closes we email you to say you have won. Log in to ogga.co.za and your invoice, covering every lot you won in that auction, opens straight away. We never email payment links, so always pay on our site.
- On the invoice, choose courier delivery or collection, then pay by card or EFT through Paystack within 3 working days. See shipping and collection for the fees.
- There is no buyer's premium. You pay the winning bid plus any courier fee.
- If an invoice is not paid on time, the sale may be cancelled and the lot offered to the next highest bidder. Repeated non-payment leads to your account being suspended.
